HARRISBURG – Rep. Abby Major (R-Armstrong/Westmoreland) today announced that 28 fire and emergency medical services companies serving the 60th Legislative District were awarded almost $430,000 in Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services grants.

“Our fire and ambulance service personnel do a yeoman’s job protecting us in times of emergency,” Major said. “These grants will help them have the equipment they need to respond to our calls for help. I’m happy to see so many of our emergency responders took advantage of this opportunity.”

The grant program was initiated in 2000 and is open to volunteer and career fire companies, emergency medical services and rescue squads in Pennsylvania. Grant awards can be used for construction or repair of facilities, purchase or repair of equipment, debt reduction and training. The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with the Office of the State Fire Commissioner.
